Cardiac Rehabilitation

Four health-related courses that study the globalization of health care are being offered as part of the University of Evansville's five-week 2008 Summer School at Harlaxton College. Classes meet collectively for group information and individually to study each specific field of interest. Visits are planned to modern health care facilities and relevant historical sites in Nottingham, London, Lincoln, Leicester and Eyam. Other activities include group discussion with British citizens concerning the consumer's view of the British health care system.
Students may register for one or two of the following classes:
- The British and U.S. Health Care Systems: A Comparative Study
- 3 hours undergraduate or graduate credit

- This course focuses on a comparison of the
health care systems in Great Britain and the United States. It
also examines the origin and current status of the health care system
in Great Britain.
- Health Care Ethics and Jurisprudence
- 3 hours undergraduate or graduate credit

- Professor of Health Services Administation
- This course discusses ethical and legal issues in health care and their application. Topics
include issues at the end of life, distribution of health care, privacy and regulatory issues. The impact of values and attitudes in British and American culture on health care will be examined. Activities include discussions with British citizens and health care site visits.
- Nursing and Health Professions: A Cultural Experience
- 3 hours undergraduate credit

- An exploration of the historical, social, ethical, legal, and cultural components of nursing and other health professions in Great Britain, this course studies and discusses health care issues, health promotion programs, and community and hospital-based practices. Opportunities to shadow health care professionals enable the students to experience the British health care system.
- Cardiac Rehabilitation: An International Perspective

- This course utilizes a comparative approach to study the design, implementation, and administration of a multidimensional cardiac rehabilitation program in the American and British systems. In addition, historical roots of medical cardiac rehabilitation, and public health are explored.
The five-week classes meet for two hours each day Monday through Thursday, with travel opportunities during the three-day weekends. Students will have the opportunity to travel on college-sponsored trips as well as individual travel. The second week of class will be devoted to field trips with the ten-day health services administration class.
There are no specific prerequisites for these course and all majors are welcome. Registrations for the 5-week classes are processed by the Study Abroad Office. Complete application packets are currently available from the Office of Study Abroad at 812-488-1085.
